BIO: Oakley came from a family in Tennessee who could no longer care for him. He has not been well-socialized and will need someone who is patient with him.
Our must-haves for little Oakley include:
- A fenced yard
- A family with patience and who is Dachshund savvy to help him be more social
- Another young, small dog for him to play with
- Someone who is home a lot, but he’s fine until you do come home
Oakley is a very loving boy who is starting to play with his foster siblings. He loves to chew on bones and play with balls. He loves to eat! Oakley loves to snuggle and gives a very good face wash! He is very much “on the go”, but also loves to nap. He gets along with his foster siblings, but was very shy and timid at first. He will need time to warm up. We are working on getting Oakley socialized by letting him meet new people and taking him places. He enjoys car rides. He doesn’t trust strangers easily and will need time with that.
Oakley was housetrained, but really did not like the cold Wisconsin weather. He is making great progress learning to go outside to go potty using a doggy door. It is a “work in progress”.
Oakley is a joy to have and will make a great addition to your home, if you are willing to give him time to warm up and have patience while he learns to trust.
AADR does not recommend purebred dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a doxie's back or get bitten.
