BIO:  Chip was turned into a shelter in southern Alabama by his previous owners who said they could not housebreak him after a year. We have had no problem with him so we suspect there were other reasons. We’ll never know.

Chip had his dental and no teeth were lost. This boy is so sweet! Please don't make him wait for his forever home!!

Our wish list for sweet Chip includes:

  • A fenced yard
  • Another adult small breed dog to keep him company and cuddle with
  • No apartments or high rises
  • Someone to be patient until he learns your rules of the house
  • No crates, he hates them

Chip has been with us almost a week and we’ve not had any problems with him! He was timid and scared at first but warmed up after a couple of days and now wags his tail and goes with the other fosters in whatever they are doing. His former owner said he tore up toys but that’s a Dachshund for you! Just don’t take it away from him until he’s done with his duties of killing the toy. Whoever adopts him will have to work with him to continue to lose weight and help him to live healthier. He’s a sweet boy and deserves a home where he’ll be appreciated for who he is. Can you be that home??

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
