FLORIDA ADOPTER OR SOMEONE CLOSE TO FLORIDA WHO IS WILLING TO DRIVE TO SARASOTA
BIO: This pretty little girl is Gretta. She is a 5 year old female wire-hair silver dapple doxie with a very short haircut. Her senior owner could no longer care for Gretta and another doxie. They were picked up by a “flipper” in Alabama who contacted AADR. "Flippers" acquire dogs at little or no cost, provide no medical care, and sell the pup just for profit! Gretta came to us filthy and matted. She had to be shaved down, but will be GORGEOUS when her coat grows out. Thanks to AADR, she has been spayed, had a dental, and has been transported from Tennessee to Florida. She has had her world turned upside down.
Gretta is an unsocialized pup who will be a “work in progress” for quite some time. She is one of the most timid and scared doxies her foster mom has ever met. Gretta is going to need a VERY patient family who has experience with rescued dachshunds, a family who understands Gretta will not be an easy adoption. A plus will be if the adopter has dealt with separation anxiety and unsocialized dogs in the past. Gretta’s foster mom is going to be very picky about Gretta’s next home. If you do not meet the requirements listed, please do not waste your time filling out an application. Requirements for adopting Gretta include:
- MUST have a securely fenced yard attached to your home
- MUST have another small adult (well-socialized) dog for Gretta to learn from
- No apartments or high-rise buildings
- Someone home most of the time (not just because of COVID) to help with Gretta’s separation anxiety
- Florida adopter or someone close to Florida who is willing to drive to Sarasota
Do NOT apply if you just want a female doxie. This little girl needs a special family with rescue experience... NO exceptions! Who’s up for the challenge?
Gretta’s foster mom will update her bio every two weeks as Gretta gets settled, begins to trust, and learns the routine in the household. Thank you for considering rescue for adoption, but please only fill out an application for Gretta if you’re ready for a project! We want Gretta’s next home to be her last.
