BIO: Chipper is a sweet, sweet boy! Chipper came from a shelter in East Tennessee where his owners dumped him. He came into rescue at a whopping 31 pounds. We’ve helped him lose 8 pounds but he needs to lose about 7 more. While doing his vetting, it was discovered he has Cushing's Disease and will need to be on Vetoryl for this condition. Just one pill a day, no big deal. Our wish list for him includes:
No apartments or high rises
A fenced yard is preferred
Another dog his age to keep him company if you have to leave the house
Aware that the medications will cost about $40.00 per month
As Chipper is losing weight he is becoming more active so we hope he will have a fenced yard so he can wander and enjoy the sunshine. He does great walking on a leash. Chipper is a very friendly boy and is a joy to foster. Please consider him for adoption, he will give you unconditional love for the rest of his life!

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.
Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
