BIO: Willa came from a family in middle Tennessee who could no longer care for her. Willa was very shy when she came into rescue but after she warmed up, she loves being in a lap and getting your undivided attention. She was an only dog and her previous owners were home most of the time so if you are gone for any length of time, it would be nice for her to have a small young buddy to keep her company, but she can be an only dog.
Our must haves for sweet Willa include:
A fenced yard or screened-in lanai
Someone who has patience to allow her to warm up
No apartments or high rises
No cats
Willa likes to play fetch with you and she’s learning to play with other dogs. She will make a wonderful adoption to the right family... are you that family?

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.
Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
