BIO:  York came from Virginia when his owners were going into assisted living and could not take him. Our must haves for him include:

  • A fenced yard
  • A strong pack leader and a very dachshund savvy home
  • kids 10 and up
  • another young small dog(prefer female)
  • No apartment or high rises
  • Someone home a lot and not just during the pandemic

York has done better since being in a foster home but we as the foster mom and dad had to establish with him that HE was NOT the boss. He seems to get anxious at night so we give him 1cc of CBD oil on a bit of canned food and he's fine after that, during the day he gets nothing and does fine. Needs a home with few visitors or someone that can put him on a leash until the visitors sit down.

We don't want to paint a negative picture of York he just needs to know that he is NOT the boss. Also he is food aggressive and would need to be fed separate if you have another dog.

Now that we've had him and he's learned he can't run the home he's a great dog, happy and friendly to even people coming into the home but he would need to be introduced properly. He knows the spay bottle well and that's how we correct him.

This boy deserves a loving home not stuck in a foster home, please apply and we'll contract you to let you know all about him.

============== Information for All Dogs/Adopters ==============

If you have questions about this dog, please feel free to contact the foster home at the email address listed above.  They have the most up-to-date information concerning the dog and would be happy to answer any questions about the animal.

We welcome out of state and Canadian adoptions, but we will not ship any dog via cargo.  You will have to make arrangements to pick up the dog or for them to go by ground transport.  If you choose transporting by either volunteers through our organization or by paid transporter, there will be an additional $45 fee added for the required Health Certificate.

We will not adopt into CT, RI, NH, ME, or MA due to strict laws regarding importation of dogs into those states.  If you have an issue with this, you need to take this up with your legislatures.

To understand the adoption process through AADR, please review the Adoption Information on our home page.  Transportation options are outlined on that page in Step 3.

If you are interested in adopting this Dachshund please review Read Before You Adopt and then you can complete an Application.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST IN A RESCUE.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and MidWest. We just can't get them from one Coast to the other but some day we hope to have enough volunteers to do that as well.  For now, please look for dogs on your coast.

More about York in FL

Good with Dogs, Not Good with Cats, Is Not Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
