BIO: This very handsome little boy, Gideon, was a breeder release from North Carolina. He was never socialized and is scared of people, although we see he is slowly building trust in his foster home.
Gideon is coming out of his shell slowly and will continue to build trust as time passes. He will now come within 12" of his foster parents when we say "Come." We have established a "safe" place for him to go when we say "Up" or "Go Potty". He will go up the ramp and onto our couch and we can then pick him up to carry him outside. He LOVES getting into our big bed. He won’t snuggle yet, but will allow us to pet him.
Gideon needs another well-adjusted dog to help him learn to be a pet. He follows his 14-year-old foster brother dachshund everywhere. When his foster brother is getting pets and attention, Gideon is right there so close to wanting to be petted, too. We know with time he will love the petting and being loved that he so deserves!
Gideon will go potty outside, as he learned from his foster brother. Our family is home a lot and can take him and his foster brother out regularly. He is doing so well!
Gideon walks well on a leash. He does not have any natural curiosity for scents yet, so he nicely walks along side you!
Sadly, Gideon's teeth were terrible due to no dental care by the breeder. All had to be removed so he will be on softened or soft food for the rest of his life. He doesn't mind the food and is a good eater! A positive side of this is that you will save money by not needing dentals!
Our must haves for this sweet boy include:
- Fenced yard
- Another well-adjusted dog to continue to help Gideon learn to be a family member
- No apartments or high rises
- An adopter who has experience with puppy mill or breeder dogs and knows the patience, understanding and love it takes to help them learn to be a pet
Gideon will reward you as he overcomes his fear of people and builds trust. Please consider giving this beautiful boy the forever home with lots of patience he deserves!
