BIO:  Ace came from a home in Maryland when the owner could no longer care for him and while she had family that would take him, she felt it best to turn him over to rescue. Our must-haves for this adorable boy include:

  • A fenced yard
  • Another young dog to keep him company while you are gone
  • Would be best if you can be home a lot and not just during the pandemic
  • No apartments or high rises as he will bark at strange noises

When Ace first came to us he had high separation anxiety but now after being with us and the help of Trazadone he has gotten so much better. We think as he gets more comfortable and secure in his new home he’ll be able to come off the Trazadone. Ace does love his people and would really like someone that’s home a lot with him, but he doesn’t make a big fuss when we leave now.

Ace would benefit from someone that enjoys walking as he does enjoy spending time with his owner and walking would help him take off the extra pounds he’s put on. He must have a fenced yard too because he loves to be outside watching the activities.

Ace is not very fond of riding in a car but he’s getting better. If you have patience to help Ace with you leaving him, car rides and going for walks, then we think he’ll end up being a wonderful pet. We just don’t think he was exposed to a lot before coming to rescue.

============== Information for All Dogs/Adopters ==============

If you have questions about this dog, please feel free to contact the foster home at the email address listed above.  They have the most up-to-date information concerning the dog and would be happy to answer any questions about the animal.

We welcome out of state and Canadian adoptions, but we will not ship any dog via cargo.  You will have to make arrangements to pick up the dog or for them to go by ground transport.  If you choose transporting by either volunteers through our organization or by paid transporter, there will be an additional $45 fee added for the required Health Certificate.

We will not adopt into CT, RI, NH, ME, or MA due to strict laws regarding importation of dogs into those states.  If you have an issue with this, you need to take this up with your legislatures.

To understand the adoption process through AADR, please review the Adoption Information on our home page.  Transportation options are outlined on that page in Step 3.

If you are interested in adopting this Dachshund please review Read Before You Adopt and then you can complete an Application.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST IN A RESCUE.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and MidWest. We just can't get them from one Coast to the other but some day we hope to have enough volunteers to do that as well.  For now, please look for dogs on your coast.

Good with Dogs, Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
