BIO:  This ADORABLE little girl was a breeder release from North Carolina. She is very timid since she was never properly socialized as a puppy (born and raised in a puppymill). She is scared of new situations, new people, and new places. She has begun to trust her foster mom although she continues to lean on her foster brother and sister for security. That’s not surprising as she has always been with other dogs. Sasha is sweet as can be, and smart too. She is quickly learning the routine in her foster home. She is becoming more confident walking on a leash as long as her foster sibs are with her.

These are the must haves to adopt Sasha:

  • A fenced yard
  • Another young, small, well-socialized dog in the home to help her learn to be a pet
  • No apartments or high rises
  • An adopter who has experience with either a puppymill dog or an adult breeder dog because you will need patience to help her be a pet

Patience, a routine, and time are going to be key to helping Sasha trust and blossom as a pet. Her favorite game is to come close, but then runaway! She wants very badly to be loved on so once she’s in your lap (or in your bed!) she will cuddle right next to you until you get up!

Sasha already had a long transport to get to Florida. She was scared the entire trip and didn’t even want to come out of her crate when she arrived in Sarasota. For this reason, we are looking for a Florida adopter, preferably near Sarasota or willing to drive to Sarasota. Thank you for considering rescue for adoption. This little girl is PRECIOUS!!!!

Good with Dogs, Not Good with Cats, Good with Older/Considerate Kids Only, Good with Adults, Requires a yard, Cratetrained, Timid, Needs a companion animal

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
