BIO:  This sweetheart is named Hero. He is a very good boy and is learning how to be the best he can be. He is still learning to trust humans, but is getting better every day.

Hero was found by a kind family in the country in Arkansas. He was found along with two siblings and they all made their way to rescue. We don’t know about his past, but he must have been very afraid as he is getting used to being loved and cared for.

These are the requirements for adopting Hero:

  • A fenced yard
  • Another young small dog for him to play with
  • Someone who is home a lot to help him feel loved
  • No apartments or high-rises

He is used to a doggy door here at his foster home. He is fully potty-trained, but if you don’t have a doggy door, he may need some help learning to let you know when he has to go. He loves toys and carrying around his favorite stuffed toy. He is a very happy little boy and he gets along with all his foster siblings. He has a great personality!

What Hero needs most is his forever home. He has come a long way and would love to be in a permanent loving home. Could you possibly be that loving forever home?

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
