BIO: If you are looking for both an energetic dog to walk and a loving lapdog, Petey is your boy! He appears to be a small standard Dachshund, not your petite miniature! He is a lean 19 pounds with a very stocky build. Petey very much wants your love and attention, and is a good listener when you need him to lay in his dog bed. He knows several commands and wants to please you. He sleeps in his crate at night but would prefer the big bed with his new family!
Petey is fairly timid and skittish, despite his size. Young children make him nervous, especially when out walking. He will want to pull and get away if they run up to him. However, if they approach slowly or sit nearby, he warms up.
Petey was originally adopted from AADR when he was 6 months old. Sadly, due to no fault of his own, he was surrendered to another rescue after his parents divorced. He had been with his family for five years. After 2 years with the other rescue group, he found his way back to AADR. Despite all this turnover in his life, Petey remains the sweetest, most loving boy!
Petey is very good with his older dachshund foster brother. He walks very well on his harness leash, but is easily startled by cars going by or other people. He is not much of a barker (and has a soft bark), but will alert you when needed!
Our must haves for this sweet boy include:
- A fenced yard for this curious and active boy.
- Work with him on jumping! He knows to use the ramps to get on the bed and couch. As with all dachshunds, you must prevent any jumping down or using stairs!
- No apartments or high rises.
Petey needs a good home for the rest of his life. No one should have experienced as much change as he has and his expressive little face shows his desire for a final forever home. This sweet boy has so much love to give!
