BIO:  Peanut was a breeder release in middle Tennessee. Our must-have's for this sweet boy include:

  • Someone who is Dachshund savvy, has patience, and will take their time with him so he can warm up, he is shy at first especially with strangers
  • A fenced yard
  • Another young, small dog to play with and learn from
  • No apartments or high rises

Peanut needs a person that is willing to work with him. While he does warm up he is nervous around new people and situations but once he knows you are okay, he’s the sweetest boy. He is a beautiful black and tan with a sleek coat and he’s likely to be a small Standard. He’s at least 16 or 17 pounds and he still has some growing to do.

We need someone that is willing to take their time to house-train and socialize him so he can be the Dachshund he was meant to be. It’s very important that you have another young dog (small breed please) for him to play with and to learn from.

More about Peanut in MD

Good with Dogs, Good with Older/Considerate Kids Only, Good with Adults, Requires a yard

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
