BIO:  Are you looking for a Bert for your Ernie? Look no further than this cute little puppy. But wait, before you apply, you MUST meet these requirements (these are non-negotiable):

  • MUST have a fenced yard
  • NO children under the age of 12 in the house
  • MUST have another young dog for Bert to play and grow with
  • MUST be dachshund puppy savvy owners
  • NO apartment/high rise homes
  • We want the new owner to have flexible schedule to be home with Bert to work on his training

If you meet the above requirements and want to provide Bert the perfect home, please apply soon as we suspect he won't be available long.

Bert is doing very well at his foster home. He has two seven-year-old foster brothers and loves playing with them. He is also doggie-door trained. We are working on his potty and leash training. He is such a handsome little boy and he will make perfect addition to any home. He seems to be learning very fast and has proven that he learns better by watching his brothers. Once you apply, please feel free to reach out to Bert’s foster family with any questions.

We are looking for a Northeastern furever home for Bert so that his travel is nice and short. Due to state laws, we cannot adopt into ME, NH, MA, CT, or RI. Current COVID-19 rules restrict us from being able to adopt to Canada either. Once border crossing restrictions are lifted, we will accept Canadian applicants.

More about Bert in VT

Good with Dogs, Good with Cats, Good with Older/Considerate Kids Only, Good with Adults, Requires a yard

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
