“My Little Angel”…..this is what I have come to call my newest foster, Molly. She has been at my house for 2 weeks now and I am hard pressed to think of anything negative to say about her. Molly has had a year full of changes. She moved from Reno, NV all the way to NC with her family. However, they were no longer able to take care of her. They have taken very good care of Molly and they were so sad to see her go. She is a very loyal girl and at first she was sad and was looking for her mommy every time our door opened. Now she has learned that our house isn’t so bad and her true personality as emerged!

Molly is a very laid back little girl and she is happiest when she is following her foster mom around, snuggling under her blanket, or playing with her favorite tennis ball. Although Molly is 6 years old (she was born on Christmas Eve!), she keeps up with my 2 year old dachshund. They both play tag in the backyard and when they get tired, they will go lay in the sun together. When she has no one to play with, she loves to fling her tennis ball in the air and then runs to catch it! She also likes a little of the quiet life also with her afternoon naps and to burrow under blankets.

Molly is one of the best potty trained dachshunds I have ever met. She has not had 1 accident in my house yet. I keep her on a regular schedule and she goes potty every time I let her out. Now that she is getting comfortable in our home, she even will sit by the door and let out a little cry when she has to go.

This little girl is also very obedient and LOVES to please. Whenever I tell Molly that she is a good girl or sit down to pet her, she gets SO excited. Her tail starts wagging and then her whole back end begins to wiggle! She even will let out a cute little noise to let you know how happy she is. She doesn’t beg for food and she sleeps in her own bed by the big bed at night (although I know she definitely wouldn’t mind sleeping up in the big bed with her person!)

Molly is very pretty with these big eyes that just say “Love me!”. We took her to the vet and she is happy and healthy. She does need to lose a couple of pounds to get her girlish figure back but she walks very well on a leash and loves to run so exercise isn’t a problem. Although a fenced in yard would be preferred, Molly walks so well on a leash that I believe that it isn’t a “must”.

When Molly first stayed with us, we gated her off to see how she would do when we went to work. For the first couple of days, she cried and had some minor separation anxiety. Now I can leave her in the living room/kitchen with my dachshunds and she does fine. I come home to find her sleeping with my dogs by the window.  For this reason, Molly must go to a home that has another dachshund or small dog to keep her company. She has grown up with other dachshunds and I know she would be lonely without them.  She still gets VERY excited when we get home, she will cry, jump and her tail is just wiggling away. Once I give her a hug and sit down with her, she is fine. She just needs to know that you will always come back for her and that she is safe.

Molly is fine with my 40 pound sheltie. I don’t know how she is with cats but she loves to chase lizards and squirrels in the yard so I assume it would be the same with a cat.

If you are looking for a sweet girl who will just love you more than anyone else, Molly is the girl for you. I promise that she will be your snuggle buddy, your protector, your comforter, and your best friend. She is a great girl and her personality just brings sunshine wherever she goes. Won’t you be the one to give Molly her forever home?

Out of State and Canadian adopters are welcome. We do not ship our dogs cargo. You will have to make arrangements to pick up the dog or for them to go by ground transport. THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST IN A RESCUE.

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
