BIO:  Dax came from Southern Alabama where he lived outside for two years before the family decided to surrender him to Animal Control. Sadly, he was heartworm positive but we’ll get him treated and then he can find a home where he’ll be an inside dog from now on. Because he must complete treatment first, he will not be able to go to his forever home until the middle of August. Dax's must-haves include:

  • A fenced yard
  • Another young dog to play with, small or big
  • No apartments or high rises
  • Someone that will give him the attention he craves and deserves

This is one sweet, friendly boy! All he wants is for you to pay attention to him and give him love. He loves to carry his toys around and show them to you. This little boy is perfect in our eyes... so far we’ve not seen anything negative to pass along. He will have a fresh dental before going to his forever home. Because of his beautiful coat and soft fur, he’ll be scooped up quickly so read the requirements and if you match those and can wait until August, then get your application in now.

============== Information for All Dogs/Adopters ==============

If you have questions about this dog, please feel free to contact the foster home at the email address listed above.  They have the most up-to-date information concerning the dog and would be happy to answer any questions about the animal.

We welcome out of state and Canadian adoptions, but we will not ship any dog via cargo.  You will have to make arrangements to pick up the dog or for them to go by ground transport.  If you choose transporting by either volunteers through our organization or by paid transporter, there will be an additional $45 fee added for the required Health Certificate.

We will not adopt into CT, RI, NH, ME, or MA due to strict laws regarding importation of dogs into those states.  If you have an issue with this, you need to take this up with your legislatures.

To understand the adoption process through AADR, please review the Adoption Information on our home page.  Transportation options are outlined on that page in Step 3.

If you are interested in adopting this Dachshund please review Read Before You Adopt and then you can complete an Application.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST IN A RESCUE.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and MidWest. We just can't get them from one Coast to the other but some day we hope to have enough volunteers to do that as well.  For now, please look for dogs on your coast.

More about Dax in AL

Good with Dogs, Not Good with Cats, Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
