BIO:  Shia is such a sweet girl! She has a wonderful personality and enjoys being with her people. She loves her squeaky toys and riding in the car. Shia is a small girl that would rather be inside sitting in your lap than outside. I have taken her camping in our RV and she loved it. She is an older girl with a very young heart.

This little lady came to rescue when her family was expecting a baby and had to move and could not take her.

Shia would make a wonderful addition to any family. She has been around my granddaughter, who is two, with no issues. I would like to see her in a home with older children, who are familiar with a dachshund and their personalities.

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
