BIO:  Elsa came from Florida when her people realized they just didn’t have the time for her that was needed, so they contacted AADR to take her. Elsa's must-haves include:

  • A fenced yard
  • Someone who is home a lot (not just during Covid19) to help her further her housetraining skills
  • Another small, young, well-socialized dog to help her learn to be a member of the family
  • No apartments or high-rises

Elsa is a very sweet little girl but until she can trust you, she is very timid and will not come to you. So the person who is lucky enough to be approved must be VERY patient with her. If  a stranger approached her too quickly. she could snap. Patience is the key here, that’s why it’s important that she goes to a home with another well-socialized dog so she can learn to trust instead of fear.

She does like to bark at strange noises, so that’s why no apartments or high-rises. Plus, she loves being in a fenced yard.

If you have a lot of time on your hands and want to help a rescue be a better pet, then Elsa is your girl! And she’s pretty darn cute too!

============== Information for All Dogs/Adopters ==============

If you have questions about this dog, please feel free to contact the foster home at the email address listed above.  They have the most up-to-date information concerning the dog and would be happy to answer any questions about the animal.

We welcome out of state and Canadian adoptions, but we will not ship any dog via cargo.  You will have to make arrangements to pick up the dog or for them to go by ground transport.  If you choose transporting by either volunteers through our organization or by paid transporter, there will be an additional $45 fee added for the required Health Certificate.

We will not adopt into CT, RI, NH, ME, or MA due to strict laws regarding importation of dogs into those states.  If you have an issue with this, you need to take this up with your legislatures.

To understand the adoption process through AADR, please review the Adoption Information on our home page.  Transportation options are outlined on that page in Step 3.

If you are interested in adopting this Dachshund please review Read Before You Adopt and then you can complete an Application.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST IN A RESCUE.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and MidWest. We just can't get them from one Coast to the other but some day we hope to have enough volunteers to do that as well.  For now, please look for dogs on your coast.

More about Elsa in CO

Good with Dogs, Not Good with Cats, Is Not Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
