BIO:  Fred's mamma came from Texas very pregnant and 10 days later, she had 8 puppies (sadly 3 did not survive). Momma is a Dachshund-Miniature Pinscher mix but momma won’t say what daddy was, other than he didn’t stick around. Little Fred's needs include:

  • Absolutely no apartments
  • A fenced yard
  • Someone to be home a lot to housetrain (even after the pandemic)
  • Another younger small dog or cat to play with
  • No children under 10 years, no exceptions
  • Due to the risk of Parvo approved adopters will need to come to TN to pick up the puppy

Fred is the smallest of the males and the quietest one, and he also likes to snuggle with his pack or with you. He might do better if you adopt him along with one of his litter mates. As with all puppies, he will need to be properly socialized and allowed to interact with strangers. The biggest mistake people make when getting dachshund puppies is not allowing them to be around strangers so they become fearful of strangers and will bark and snap when one comes into their space.

He will not be able to go to his forever home until after the 3rd of June when he gets his 2nd set of puppy shots; his adopter will need to get him the 3rd set and the Rabies vaccination.

More about Fred in PA

Good with Dogs, Good with Cats, Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
