BIO:  Savannah came in from Alabama when her family could no longer care for her. Savannah's must-haves include:

• An owner willing to walk her and very committed to getting her extra weight off and keeping it off

Hi, my name is Savannah and I've been in my foster home for one week. My foster mom thinks I'm very sweet and laid back and she's really excited that I'm not a barker. I do all my potties outside and sleep quietly in my crate by her bed all night without a peep. I love having foster fur friends, both male and female, and I get along great with all of them. 

As you can tell already, I'm a really good little girl! I love to cuddle and have my foster mom hold me. She calls me "Chunky Monkey" which really hurts my feelings, so I'm working VERY HARD to get rid of that awful name! I'm eating a lot less than I was used to before my family gave me up and I'm getting lots of exercise by leash walking every day! My foster mommy tells me I'm going to be a perfect weight before long, and when I am, she promises not to call me "Chunky Monkey" any more. Foster mommy says I'm going to feel like a new dog once I shed the extra weight I'm carrying. I've ALREADY lost 4 ounces in the week I've been here! Foster mommy says I need to lose another 2 to 2 1/2 pounds. You see I'm a little mini doxie and will be just perfect at 9 1/2 to 10 pounds.

I'm just as cute as I can be and would love for you to be my Forever Family as long as you will take great care of me and continue to help me not be a "Chunky Monkey." Don't procrastinate on filling out an application because I'm such a cute little girl that it won't take long before everybody wants to be my Forever Family!

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
