BIO:  Cowboy came from a shelter in Northern Alabama, turned in with another dog by his owner. We are not quite sure why since he’s a great dog, just a little timid of strangers at first but he does warm up. He is a normal dachshund and will bark at other dogs and squirrels. He does make a good watch dog if you are home alone. Cowboy's wish list includes:

  1. A fenced yard
  2. No apartments
  3. Another dog to keep him company if you have to be gone but he’s pretty low key
  4. Lots of walks - he does great on a leash!
  5. Must be willing to crate when not going to be home

Cowboy loves to be in the same room as you and he’s also happy laying on the couch while you are busy around the house. He enjoys being outside if you have yard work to do, he’s happy to be the supervisor.

If you think Cowboy would fit into your lifestyle, then don’t hesitate and apply or email his foster mom for more info.

============== Information for All Dogs/Adopters ==============

If you have questions about this dog, please feel free to contact the foster home at the email address listed above.  They have the most up-to-date information concerning the dog and would be happy to answer any questions about the animal.

We welcome out of state and Canadian adoptions, but we will not ship any dog via cargo.  You will have to make arrangements to pick up the dog or for them to go by ground transport.  If you choose transporting by either volunteers through our organization or by paid transporter, there will be an additional $45 fee added for the required Health Certificate.

We will not adopt into CT, RI, NH, ME, or MA due to strict laws regarding importation of dogs into those states.  If you have an issue with this, you need to take this up with your legislatures.

To understand the adoption process through AADR, please review the Adoption Information on our home page.  Transportation options are outlined on that page in Step 3.

If you are interested in adopting this Dachshund please review Read Before You Adopt and then you can complete an Application.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST IN A RESCUE.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast. We just can't get them from one Coast to the other but some day we hope to have enough volunteers to do that as well.  For now, please look for dogs on your coast.

More about Cowboy in PA

Good with Dogs, Not Good with Cats, Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
