BIO:  Leila came to us when her daddy died a year ago and her mom just recently had to go into assisted living and the family could not care for her. We were contacted by another rescue in Virginia that knew she'd be better in a breed specific rescue so here she is! Leila's wish list includes:

• A fenced yard
• Another dog to keep her company if you work
• No apartments
• Someone that is home a lot if there is no other dog
• Children 8 years or older

This beautiful girl is Leila, a 5-year-old black and tan. She is an owner surrender and was very well taken care of by her former owners. She loves going for walks and just being around you wherever you are. She does well on a leash and in the car, and loves running around the yard. Because of her age, a fenced yard is required for her.

Leila loves being around her foster brothers and does well with other dogs. Before she came into rescue, she was in a home with a cat and we understand she was okay with him also. When Leila first meets strangers, she barks a little but then comes up to them to greet them.

Her favorite thing is to just be around people. If you are sitting on the couch, Leila will be right there with you. When you come home, she will give you quite a greeting to welcome you. And when it’s time for bed, she’s going to want to be right there with you too. 

If you are looking for a friendly and cuddly companion, Leila is the girl for you! 

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
