BIO UPDATE:  Millie is just the sweetest little sugar pie!  She is alert and playful.  She loves her walks and is eager to find new adventures every time she is outside.  This is a little dog with a big personality and she has the energy level of a puppy even at four years old.  Millie would be a good dog with children who are attentive and respectful of her size and breed.

In the house Millie is a great watch dog and likes to sit by the window alerting when people walk by.  She entertains herself playing with her stuffed toys and enjoys a good game of fetch.  Millie loves having her belly rubbed and gives tiny little kisses of appreciation.  She is the best snuggle buddy and likes to be near her person as much as possible when relaxing.

Millie is a dear little girl wanting to be your best companion!

BIO:  Millie came in to rescue from an owner surrender in northern Alabama when the owner could no longer care for her.  Millie's list includes:

  • Needs a fenced yard
  • No apartments
  • Another dog to play and cuddle with or someone home alot to keep her company
  • no BIG dogs
  • A little patience... she's shy at first but warms quickly

We are looking for a home for Millie that has another dog because she’s always been with another Dachshund.  Kids 5 years and up are fine but must know how to treat Dachshunds and their long backs.  Please don’t ask if you have children younger than 5.  She needs a fenced yard because she loves to smell and run in the yard.  If you are interested in a beautiful black and tan that needs to lose a couple pounds, then please don’t wait to apply.

More about Millie in NJ

Good with Dogs, Not Good with Cats, Good with Older/Considerate Kids Only, Requires a yard, Leashtrained, Cratetrained, Likes to play with toys, Playful, Affectionate

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
