BIO:  Penny came to us from western Kentucky when her owner was unable to care for her any longer due to health issues.

  • One of the sweetest little girls
  • Loves loves lap time
  • Loves sleeping next to you in the big bed
  • Needs a fenced yard
  • No apartments

Penny was saved from a breeder/hoarder situation when she was just a puppy - thank goodness! - so all she knows is love. She’s well socialized and a happy girl. She is doing very well on housebreaking but loves it when you go outside with her while she does her business. We feel she would do much better with a young dog like herself to play with because she loves to play and play with toys too. But when she’s ready to settle down, she loves your lap to curl up in with a blanket covering her. She LOVES to cuddle under blankets and many times we’ll find her burrowed under some blankets on our couch.

This little girl deserves the best home because she is so sweet. If you have a fenced yard and another young dog looking for a playmate, look no further... Penny is here!

============== Information for All Dogs/Adopters ==============

If you have questions about this dog, please feel free to contact the foster home at the email address listed above.  They have the most up-to-date information concerning the dog and would be happy to answer any questions about the animal.

We welcome out of state and Canadian adoptions, but we will not ship any dog via cargo.  You will have to make arrangements to pick up the dog or for them to go by ground transport.  If you choose transporting by either volunteers through our organization or by paid transporter, there will be an additional $45 fee added for the required Health Certificate.

We will not adopt into CT, RI, NH, ME, or MA due to strict laws regarding importation of dogs into those states.  If you have an issue with this, you need to take this up with your legislatures.

To understand the adoption process through AADR, please review the Adoption Information on our home page.  Transportation options are outlined on that page in Step 3.

If you are interested in adopting this Dachshund please review Read Before You Adopt and then you can complete an Application.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST IN A RESCUE.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast. We just can't get them from one Coast to the other but some day we hope to have enough volunteers to do that as well.  For now, please look for dogs on your coast.

More about Penny in LA

Good with Dogs, Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
