BIO:  Jackson came from a divorce situation along with another dog that was returned to the breeder they originally came from.  She in turn surrendered him to us.  We are not sure what his home situation was like but we know he has not been socialized and really needs someone that has a lot of patience to help him with his fears.  Jackson is not aggressive, just very timid.  So please don’t apply unless you are willing to help Jackson overcome his fears.  Jackson needs:

  • A fenced yard
  • Another young dog (small) to play with when he learns to play
  • Someone who is patient and home a lot to help him
  • No apartments

Jackson is a very sweet dog and we really think he’ll come out of his shell.  However, it’s going to take time and patience on your part.  So if you are looking for a project then he could be just what you're looking for.  We know he’s going to be a wonderful pet, he just needs help getting there.  Because we believe whoever had him kept him in a crate all the time, we do not want to see him put in a crate again, so please don’t.  When crated, all he does is go back and forth as fast as he can and that’s not what we want for him.  Please, please, help him to become the pet he wants to be.

Good with Dogs, Good with Cats, Good with Older/Considerate Kids Only

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
