BIO: Chewy was dumped at a shelter in southern Alabama when his owners said they didn’t trust him around their grandchildren because he’s blind. But the foster home has a toddler and Chewy has been fine with him though we monitor the child to make sure he’s behaving around Chewy.

Here are a few things you should know about Chewy:

  • He loves lap time!
  • He can find you anywhere in the house
  • He’ll sleep in a doggie bed beside your bed all night and not move
  • He probably needs another dog if you’re going to be gone
  • No apartments

We can’t say enough good things about Chewy... he’s been a joy to foster and take care of when he had his eyes removed, but now it’s time to say good-bye and help him find his forever home. It won’t take him long to learn your home, just give him about a week and he’ll be all over. Please no open stairs in the house and it’s best for him to have a ramp should there be steps to your fenced yard.

If you are looking for a snuggle bunny then Chewy is your man... please consider giving him a home for the holidays!

Good with Dogs, Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
