BIO UPDATE (11/18/2019):  Henry really is sweet and loves to give kisses!  He is crate trained and will happily go in with his Peanut Butter Kong then sleep until you come home.  Henry uses the doggy door like a champ and enjoys his outdoor time as well.  This guy is a great little dog with a big bark!  Henry is:  

• A very happy boy
• Playful
• Very good with his people – not strangers
• Smart

Henry is your typical nosy little man who wants to be involved in everything you do.  He is young and loves to play with toys, you or another young playful dog.  We often have to remind Henry to leave the cat be and go play somewhere else.  He is a very good listener and will do as he is told most of the time.  When Henry is not playing, he can be found buried under blankets napping, unless sitting with you is an option.  He loves his people but does not take kindly to strangers coming into the home.  Company needs to be properly introduced and Henry will be fine with them after a while.  At night he will snuggle down in bed with you until the morning.  He makes a great little bed partner!

BIO:  Henry came from a shelter in GA and had been with them for a while. We agreed to take him to find him a home. Here are some things we know and want for Henry:

• Adopter must be a strong pack leader
• Must have a fenced yard
• Not fond of strangers
• Loves lap time and the big bed

Henry is a sweet boy with his family but does not really care for strangers coming into the home so for that reason you must be a strong pack leader and help him understand he has nothing to fear. With the proper introductions he can be fine, and he’s also treat motivated. You must understand this about this handsome boy. He loves to curl up on the couch with you and sleep at the foot of the bed under the covers at night. He will also patrol your yard for critters and keep them at bay.

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
