BIO (9/16/2019): Gracie is a quiet, gentle, shy, sweet girl who came from Jackson, Tennessee when her owners were moving and did not want to take her with them. She gets along well with people and other dogs, both large and small. While she enjoys attention, it takes a while for her to come out of her shell. With continued patience and love, she now enjoys cuddling with us.
She loves her crate and she may choose to sleep in it during the day.
Gracie is on 2 medications to prevent seizures, one Thyroid medication and one medication for her heart daily. Cost at current vet:
Phenobarbital: $25/mo.
Levetiraetam: $25/mo.
Thyro-Tab: $17/4 mos.
Vetmedin: $50/mo.
She is afraid of loud noises and thunderstorms. She is housebroken however, if it is storming, she will not go outside but she does use puppy pads.
Gracie is a very friendly girl who really just wants to find a forever family who will give her lots of love.

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.
Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
