BIO: Dixie came into rescue from a Georgia family who surrendered her. The family was moving and unable to take her with them.
Is wary of strangers but when she gets to know you, she has the cutest wag ever!
Is the perfect lap dog and loves to be held.
Is very skittish at first and needs reassuring.
Doesn’t like loud noises and activity so she will do best in a calm environment.
Loves burrowing under the covers in bed and loves to be under a blanket in your lap.
Currently is in a house with four other dogs and one cat. She does well with all.
Will be a loyal dog to anyone who gives her love and gentle support.
She is not leashed trained so the home MUST have a securely fenced yard.
Any children must be 12 years or older.

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.
Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
