NAME..................................WOODY DACHSHUND...................PURE/MINI COAT..................................SMOOTH COLOR...............................CHOCOLATE AGE......................................approx 10 YRS GENDER............................MALE/NEUTERED WEIGHT.............................<10 LBS ADOPTION FEE................"JUST A DONATION" contact Jenny jupchurch@tennessean.com BEING FOSTERED IN MIDDLE TN WOODY was found at an abondoned house in AL that was being reinvated by a good samaritian. He was covered in fleas and ticks but the good samaritian took him to the vets to have him looked over and then he contacted us to see if we would take this sweet boy. We got him to our vet right away and it was discovered that he was heartworm positive, bad teeth and a heartmumur but we got him updated on his shots, teeth cleaned(he had to have some gum surgery) and his heartworms treated and he's on medication for a heartmumur. Since we have had all that done WOODY feels so much better and didn't like being babygated in the kitchen so now we have him in with a few other special doxies that are recovering or are on medications. It will be about 6 more weeks before WOODY can go to his forever home. His boy does not act his age and could very well be younger than 10 but since we don't know anything about him we can only guess. He likes to cuddle with his human and sleep in the big bed. He also apprears to be housebroken as he will bark when he wants to go out!! If you want a companion this is the boy for you. I'm sure he has a story to tell but he's not telling it so we can only make his remaining years the best they can be and that can be done with your help. PLEASE GIVE WOODY A LASTING FOREVER HOME. Out of state and Canadian adoptions are welcome. We have several transporters that for a fee will bring the dog as close to you as possible up the Eastern seaboard. A home visit is required on all adoptions. We also micro chip all our dogs and must pass the cost on to the adopter. It is only $10.00. Thank you for your interest in a rescue. To fill out an application for this dog please go to www.ssdr.org and fill out an app. we will be in touch shortly to do a phone interview. It is also best to have a dog in mind that you would like to adopt or if you don't please let us know that you'd like a dog that best fits your lifestyle. Keep in mind that we are all volunteers and have other obligations so please let your references and vet know that we will be calling to vai all info that you put on your application. If you use two vets then please let us know that so we get all info on your dog possible to determine if you are a suitable home for our dog. If you do not let us know these things this maybe the factor that you will be turned down to adopt one of our dogs.

Not Good with Cats, Is Not Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
