When Willy first came into the shelter they thought he was going to have to be put down cause he was wanting to lash out at everyone but they contacted us and we told them we take him and to just hang onto him until our driver could get up to get him in East TN. After a week he was running around the shelter greeting people and was very friendly to everyone. You see if you beat a Dachshund they are going to bite you!! Willy is just fine with us and will be in his new home as long as you don't push yourself on him and let him come to you at his own pace. He is housebroken to a doggie door and loves the fenced in yard so that is recommended so he can wander in the yard or play outside on nice days. He is heartworm negative and on heartworm prevention and Frontline, UTD on all shots. Wily would do fine with other dogs, kids older and cats would be fine to we think, he's very mellow. All family members have to want the dog for us to adopt. Out of state and Canidian adoptions are welcome, we have several transporters that for a fee will bring the dog as close to you as possible. AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
