BIO UPDATE (8/16/2019):  Mr. Harry Potter is doing very well in his foster home.  He gets along with his foster dachshund sibling and cats.  He is learning not to be scared of noises and people visiting the home.  Harry loves long walks, car rides and has learned to meet new people.  We took him to have a bath at Pet Supplies Plus and he came through like a champ.  After only being in his foster home for a month, we have noticed he is settling in.  Harry is learning to play more and loves to check out the yard within the fence, but he can also be a couch potato!!

Please, look at Harry... can you share your home with him?  He would love that!

BIO (7/17/2016):  Hello all, my name is Harry Potter and I’m looking for someone to love me!!  I’m in a foster home with cats and dogs and don’t have a problem with any of them, but they are all new to me because I have always been the only one.

Harry’s foster mom has this to say about him:  Harry is a sweet little guy.  He is a bit shy at first, but with love and patience, he comes around very well.  Harry lost his family that he has been with all his life, so now we are working on socialization so he can give his love to everyone!!  Harry sleeps in a crate all night with no accidents.  He is enjoying going out a doggie door and exploring the yard and he walks well on a leash.  Harry rides well in the car tethered to a seat belt.

Please, if you are looking for a sweet boy, you have found him.  It’s Harry Potter!

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
