Being fostered in Middle TN……………
Shannon was dropped off at the shelter in AL. We do not know anything about her past. She is a very sweet little girl. She is good with other dogs, kids, and likes to chase and bark at cats. She is being fostered at a home with cats that are used to dogs harassing them, but if you have a cat that is not on its toes at all times then I would not suggest her to you. She does have a little food aggression but we are working on that. When she arrived she was very skinny and we are working to put some weight on her. She likes to sleep in a dog bed, and is crate trained. She had accidents in the house when she first arrived but with a strict schedule and routine she has not had an accident in several days. With time she will be 99% housebroken. She LOVES her treats and the way to her heart is by treats. If you think you can give this darling of a girl the home she deserves please fill out the application for her.
Out of state and Canadian adoptions are welcome. We have several transporters that for a fee will bring the dog as close to you as possible up the Eastern seaboard. A home visit is required on all adoptions. We also micro chip all our dogs and must pass the cost on to the adopter. It is only $10.00. Thank you for your interest in a rescue. To fill out an application for this dog please go to www.ssdr.org and fill out an app. We will be in touch shortly to do a phone interview. It is also best to have a dog in mind that you would like to adopt or if you don't please let us know that you'd like a dog that best fits your lifestyle. Keep in mind that we are all volunteers and have other obligations so please let your references and vet know that we will be calling to verify all info that you put on your application. If you use two vets then please let us know that so we get all info on your dog possible to determine if you are a suitable home for our dog. If you do not let us know these things this maybe the factor that you will be turned down to adopt one of our dogs.
AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.
Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
