ROADY came from central GA were he was a stray and was hit by a car, taken to a vet clinic and treated. Then we were contacted to take him into rescue. He still has some scars and scraps from being hit by the car but we consider him lucky that he is with us and a animal lover thought enough of him to get him treated. ROADY IS VERY FRIENDLY AND GETS ALONG WITH EVERYTHING, KIDS, CATS AND OTHER DOGS. He's just an all round perfect dog. He loves giving kisses and he loves to be in your lap to snuggle up to you. He is UTD on all shots, heartworm neg and on prevention and ready to go to his new home. If you think ROADY is the one for your family then please fill out an online app to get him to your home.
Keep in mind no matter how housebroken they may be they are going to have several or more accidents in your home until they adjust to you and their new home. Some dachshunds are never really 100% housebroken especially if it's raining out.
Out of state and Canadian adoptions are welcome. We have several transporters that for a fee will bring the dog as close to you as possible up the Eastern seaboard. A home visit is required on all adoptions. We also micro chip all our dogs and must pass the cost on to the adopter. It is only $10.00. Thank you for your interest in a rescue. To fill out an application for this dog please go to www.ssdr.org and fill out an app. we will be in touch shortly to do a phone interview. It is also best to have a dog in mind that you would like to adopt or if you don't please let us know that you'd like a dog that best fits your lifestyle.
AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.
Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
