PEPPER MAN came to us from a shelter in KY where he was turned in due to not good with children but we think their was more to it than that. He was terrified when he came to us and I needed a towel to get him out of the cage at the shelter(Dachshunds don't do well in shelters anyway). For about a week you could not touch him but slowly he has gotten his trust in us and I can now pick him up and love on him and he'll just stay in your arms and let you love on him. He will not sleep in the big bed but will stay for a few minutes than jump down and crawl into the doggie bed so we are guessing he was never allowed on the big bed. He is not a jumper on furniture either so we think this boy needs a good dose of being spoiled rotten. He is not demanding, not a barker, gets along with all the fosters here male and female. Don't know about cats but no kids under 14 we would say. We'd love to see him have a fenced in yard and a doggie door but at least a doggie dog and another dog for him to play and cuddle with. Yes he has started to play here just a little and he'll hold his tail up and even wag it. PEPPER MAN is utd on all of his shots, heartworm tested and on heartworm prevention and Frontline. He is ready to step into his new home and be spoiled rotten. If you are up for a challenge to work with him for just a while to get him to trust you than this is the man for you. He seems to be fine with both men and women just not young kids so please see the gem of a dog this boy can be and put in to adopt him and help him to understand that he was made for spoiling not to be used as a punching bag. Out of state and Canadian adoptions are welcome. We have several transporters that for a fee will bring the dog as close to you as possible up the Eastern seaboard. A home visit is required on all adoptions. We also micro chip all our dogs and must pass the cost on to the adopter. It is only $10.00. Thank you for your interest in a rescue. To fill out an application for this dog please go to www.ssdr.org and fill out an app. we will be in touch shortly to do a phone interview. It is also best to have a dog in mind that you would like to adopt or if you don't please let us know that you'd like a dog that best fits your lifestyle.

Not Good with Cats, Is Not Good with Kids
AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.
Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
