Due to family obligations Nikey had to be surrendered and it broke his owners hearts. He has been an only dog with an older couple but they had an older grandchild that Nikey was great with. Nikey just doesn't like children under 5. He sleeps in his crate at night and is house broken and papertrained if it's nasty outside and he can't go out. He loves car rides, walks well on a leash and LOVES his tennis balls. He'll play for hours with his tennis balls. You can tell Nikey has been very well cared for and is UTD on all shots, dental and will be having a heart worm check and then put on Frontline and Interceptor.
Nikey would be better as an only dog or maybe one other dog, no cats or small children. He minds very well and just wants to please. If you think you can give Nikey that home please go on line and fill out an online adoption application and be sure to put his name on the app. Nikey will need to be put on a diet and and exerisise program to lose the extra 5 to 6 lbs he's put on but he's game if you are.
Out of state and Canadian adoptions are welcome and a home visit is required. We also micro chip all our dogs and must pass the cost off to the adopter. It is only $10.00. Thank you for your interested in a rescue.

Is Not Good with Dogs, Not Good with Cats, Is Not Good with Kids
AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.
Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
