UPDATE FROM FOSTER MOM:
He is doing GREAT at our house, he has adapted very quickly. He is doing really well with going outside when my dog goes, and he doesn't wear diapers anymore. He loves the cat, he plays with him and the other two, chasing the cat around the house. Mickey also is getting along great with my male dog, we haven't had any problems with aggression or growling between the two of them. He is also doing much better with strangers, my mother in law came over and he actually ran up to her and licked her hand! I think that is a huge improvement from the scared little baby he was when he first met me.
NO CHILDREN UNDER 12 YRS!!!!!
Mickey is also a little shy with people that he doesn't know but he does warm up and then turns into a love bug and just wants to have all the love and attention you can give him. He would be fine with older children that are gentle with him. He does like to play and would be great with VEGAS or a female but other males he's not too fond of. He is UTD on all shots and on Interceptor and Frontline. He is housebroken to a doggie door and does love to go outside and enjoy the yard so a fenced in yard is best. If you are interested in adopting Mickey please go to www.ssdr.org and fill out an online app and make sure you put his name on the app.
Out of state and Canadian adoptions are welcome and a home visit is required. We also micro chip all our dogs and must pass the cost on to the adopter. It is only $10.00. Thank you for your interested in a rescue.
If you would like to know more aboit Mickey please e mail his foster mom listed above.
More about MICKEY....ky
Is Not Good with Kids
AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.
Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
