****UPDATE ON HOUSTON****
He is now housetrained but will have accidents as all dachshunds do but loves to play play play and gets along with all other dogs. He isn't shy any longer but loves people and will sleep all night long curled up beside you. Houston is too sweet to be left in foster as long as we have. Twice we've had people want to adopt him then change there minds.....please let's have the 3rd time as a charm and get this boy a home!!
HOUSTON came from the same puppymill in MS. Dropped in the drop box like a movie rental. These poor babies have had their lives turn upside down but they just don't know that their lives are going to get better and better. HOUSTON is the more outgoing one of the bunch and will even wag his tail. Hasn't learned to give kisses yet but I'm sure that's coming. He is heartworm NEGATIVE and on Interceptor and Frontline. UTD on all shots and had a dental(which was badly needed). He's ready to go to his new home and new experiences. We have noticed that the more people these un-solicized babies meet it gets easier and easier for them to warm up to people. Take them places is a must for the next new home. You will have to work on the potty habits too but they are learning. They will not potty in there crates so when you go away putting them in a crate is the best. Please give HOUSTON his last forever loving home. MUST BE PATIENT AND EXPECT IT WILL TAKE TIME FOR THESE BABIES TO ADJUST TO NEW HOMES.
Out of state and Canadian adoptions are welcome. We have several transporters that for a fee will bring the dog as close to you as possible up the Eastern seaboard. A home visit is required on all adoptions. We also micro chip all our dogs and must pass the cost on to the adopter. It is only $10.00. Thank you for your interest in a rescue. To fill out an application for this dog please go to www.ssdr.org and fill out an app. we will be in touch shortly to do a phone interview. It is also best to have a dog in mind that you would like to adopt or if you don't please let us know that you'd like a dog that best fits your lifestyle. Keep in mind that we are all volunteers and have other obligations so please let your references and vet know that we will be calling to vai all info that you put on your application. If you use two vets then please let us know that so we get all info on your dog possible to determine if you are a suitable home for our dog. If you do not let us know these things this maybe the factor that you will be turned down to adopt one of our dogs.

Good with Dogs, Not Good with Cats, Is Not Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
