How sad, GRETTA'S family had to give her up because they became homeless and couldn't care for her anymore.
She is 17.5 lbs (and could use another pound or too), so I'm thinking a
standard. She is a red/smooth, spayed female who is 15 years old,
current on all shots, negative for heartworm and fecal and is on
heartguard. She just had a complete dental and lost 16 teeth, which
means she needs canned food. She has no medical issues and her heart
and lungs are great. She is very loving, gives kisses and would sleep
in the big bed if allowed. She has adjusted to the crate at night and
prefers the couch during the day. She is totally housebroken and can
hold it for a very long time. She has had no accidents and could use a
doggie door. She is great around other dogs, large and small and when
around a cat showed no interest. She doesn't seem to mind children,
but at her age it is not a good idea. She had rather nap off and on all
day but does have a moment or too of clowning around and can be very
entertaining. She is not a barker.
WE WILL NOT SHIP OUR DOGS CARGO, TOO MANY HORROR TALES HAVE HAPPENED FOR US TO FEEL COMFORTABLE DOING THIS. IF WE CAN'T TRANSPORT BY LAND THEN YOU'LL HAVE TO FLY TO THE CITY THAT THE DOG IS BEING FOSTERED IN TO GET HIM/HER. Out of state and Canadian adoptions are welcome. We have several transporters that for a fee will bring the dog as close to you as possible up the Eastern seaboard or down to FLORDIA. A home visit is required on all adoptions. We also micro chip all our dogs and must pass the cost on to the adopter. It is only $10.00. Thank you for your interest in a rescue. To fill out an application for this dog please go to www.ssdr.org and fill out an app. we will be in touch shortly to do a phone interview. It is also best to have a dog in mind that you would like to adopt or if you don't please let us know that you'd like a dog that best fits your lifestyle. Keep in mind that we are all volunteers and have other obligations so please let your references and vet know that we will be calling to vai all info that you put on your application. If you use two vets then please let us know that so we get all info on your dog possible to determine if you are a suitable home for our dog. If you do not let us know these things this maybe the factor that you will be turned down to adopt one of our dogs.

More about GRETTA....OR

Good with Dogs, Is Not Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
