NOW THIS IS A CRYING SHAME. GRETCHEN dumped at the shelter by her owners cause they traveled too much and couldn't take her. What they didn't say was that she was heartworm positive too. But we took her in and she has been treated for the heartworms but won't be ready to go to her new home until sometime towards the end of Jan. We want to make sure they are completely gone before we send her on to her new home. She LOVES to sleep in the big bed under the covers and begs to get on the big bed. At her age she shouldn't have to worry if she's going to have a warm bed to sleep in or now. This girl is a doll and gets along with all the fosters here. She would be great as an only dog or with several others as long as you saved a place for her in the bed. Please consider giving this poor girl her last forever home and help her to forget the people that dumped her like yesterdays news!!
Out of state and Canadian adoptions are welcome. We have several transporters that for a fee will bring the dog as close to you as possible up the Eastern seaboard. A home visit is required on all adoptions. We also micro chip all our dogs and must pass the cost on to the adopter. It is only $10.00. Thank you for your interest in a rescue. To fill out an application for this dog please go to www.ssdr.org and fill out an app. we will be in touch shortly to do a phone interview. It is also best to have a dog in mind that you would like to adopt or if you don't please let us know that you'd like a dog that best fits your lifestyle. Keep in mind that we are all volunteers and have other obligations so please let your references and vet know that we will be calling to vai all info that you put on your application. If you use two vets then please let us know that so we get all info on your dog possible to determine if you are a suitable home for our dog. If you do not let us know these things this maybe the factor that you will be turned down to adopt one of our dogs.
More about GRETCHEN2....TN
Is Not Good with Kids
AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.
Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
