About GRETCHEN...KY

  • Status: Adopted!
  • Species: Dog
  • Housetrained: Yes
DACHSHUND..............................PURE/STANDARD COAT.............................................SMOOTH COLOR..........................................RED AGE................................................9.5 YRS WEIGHT........................................22 LBS ADOPTION FEE...........................NONE GOING TO SENIOR/SMALL BREED RESCUE IN KY DUE TO THE FACT THAT GRETCHEN HAS CUSHINGS AND WILL NEED MEDICATION FOR THE REST OF HER LIFE SSDR IS FORGOING THE ADOPTION FEE/WE WANT HER TO GO TO A GOOD HOME AND WILL DO THE REFERENCE CHECKS AND HOME VISIT BUT WILL NOT CHARGE AN ADOPTION FEE. SHE NOW TAKES A HALF PILL TWICE A WEEK FOR A TOTAL OF 4 PILLS PER MONTH BUT HER PILLS RUN ABOUT 6-7 DOLLARS EACH AND FOR THAT REASON WE ARE FORGOING THE ADOPTION FEE IN HOPES OF FINDING HER A FOREVER HOME. SHE IS FINE AS LONG AS SHE IS GIVEN THE PILLS TWICE A WEEK. Gretchen came from the same place as Heidi but they do not need to go together. Gretchen acts like a young pup. Not sure if she's happy she's in a foster home or that she has a yard to play and roam in. She has caught on to the doggie door as well. Appears to be house trained, gets along with all the dogs and loves to be outside. She will have a dental as well but will be ready to go to her new home as soon as that's done. She is a very sweet girl and deserves to have a lasting forever home in her golden years. Please find it in your heart to give her that home. You'll never know she around. Out of state adoptions are welcome and a home visit is welcome. Please go to www.ssdr.org and fill out an online application if you would like to bring Gretchen into your home and heart.

Not Good with Cats, Is Not Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
