GONZO came in with his brother ARNIE and another male STARBUCK. They came from a breeder that had to surrender them cause she was in trouble with Animal Control. That was really the best thing that could have happened to these three boys. They were thin, very scared and for only being 6 mos and 1 yr very bad teeth. They will all have dentals before they go to their new homes. GONZO is slowly coming out of his shell with each passing day and we think in time he'll have no lasting effects from his previous life. He is very sweet loves to give kisses and loves his foster mom but is leary or his foster dad. ARNIE on the other hand(the brother) loves the foster dad but is afraid of the foster mom. STARBUCK is fine with the foster mom and dad but not the secondary foster mom so you can see they all have issues but again they are young enough that if someone will spend the time with them when they adopt them they will get over this. GONZO is working on his house training and doing well. He goes out with the rest of the fosters and potties and when the foster mom is gone she puts papers down for him and he uses those. He is very eager to please so with patience he will pick up the housetraining. He is UTD on all shots, neutered and on Frontline and heartworm prevention. He will have his teeth cleaned before he goes to his forever home. If you would like to adopt GONZO and watch him come out of his shell please go on line and fill out an app and be sure to put his name on the application.
Out of state and Canadian adoptions are welcome. We have several transporters that for a fee will bring the dog as close to you as possible up the Eastern seaboard. A home visit is required on all adoptions. We also micro chip all our dogs and must pass the cost on to the adopter. It is only $10.00. Thank you for your interest in a rescue. To fill out an application for this dog please go to www.ssdr.org and fill out an app. we will be in touch shortly to do a phone interview. It is also best to have a dog in mind that you would like to adopt or if you don't please let us know that you'd like a dog that best fits your lifestyle.
More about GONZO.....NJ
Is Not Good with Kids
AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.
Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
