GIDGET came in with PEGGYSUE as owner turn ins from AL. We don't know why....but GIDGET is a very sweet sweet girl but will hold her own with other females that try to be ALPHA over her. For that reason we think she would do better with males rather than with another female but she dose get along with some of the females here. She is housebroken to a doggie door and loves to lay in your lap while you watch TV or sleep under the covers in the big bed. She loves her people. That's why we can't understand why she was given up cause we can't see her having any issues other than not getting along with some other females. Cats we don't know about but we'd say "NO", small children we'd say "NO" but kids over10 we think would be fine as long as they loved her and were kind to her. She is so small that any rough treatment could really hurt her. If you are interested in making GIDGET your new family member please go to www.ssdr.org and fill out an online adoption application and be sure to put her name on the app.
Out of state and Canadian adoptions are welcome. We have several transporters that for a fee will bring the dog as close to you as possible up the Eastern seaboard. A home visit is required on all adoptions. We also micro chip all our dogs and must pass the cost on to the adopter. It is only $10.00. Thank you for your interest in a rescue. To fill out an application for this dog plesae go to www.ssdr.org and fill out an app. we will be in touch shortly to do a phone interview. It is also best to have a dog in mind that you would like to adopt or if you don't please let us know that you'd like a dog that best fits your lifestyle.
More about GIDGET...GA
Not Good with Cats, Is Not Good with Kids
AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.
Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
