BEING FOSTERED IN MIDDLE TN.........
GERTIE THROW AWAY LIKE AN OLD SOCK!! She was found wandering a very busy street in Hopkinsville, KY. An ad was put in the paper but no one came.........
Rescue was called and we were there, why because even the old deserve a home to call their own. This is what we know about GERTIE she can't see real well, she is heartworm negative and was already spayed. She only lost one tooth in her dental and she's now up to date on all shots and on Interceptor and Frontline.
Yes she does run into a few things but if you take her outside she knows she has to potty out there and after she's wanders and discovers things she will actually find her way up the steps and in the doggie door!!! Can't beat that for a little blind girl or half bilnd. She really is a delight to have around. She will bark to let us know she wants out of her gated kitchen(we keep her there so she doesn't get trampled by all the young furkids here), she even finds her way back to the kitchen when she's had enough of the young'uns and will follow your voice anywhere. She loves to be petted and loved on and she LOVES BELLY-RUBS. Now if you have some free time and are bored....adopt GERTIE and she'll give you a job of rubbing her belly all day. This girl is too too sweet not to have a wonderful forever home and curses to the ones that threw her away.
PLEASE NO YOUNG KIDS......BUT SHE LOVES EVERYONE!! ALWAYS WAGGING HER TAIL.....
Out of state and Canadian adoptions are welcome. We have several transporters that for a fee will bring the dog as close to you as possible up the Eastern seaboard. A home visit is required on all adoptions. We also micro chip all our dogs and must pass the cost on to the adopter. It is only $10.00. Thank you for your interest in a rescue. To fill out an application for this dog please go to www.ssdr.org and fill out an app. we will be in touch shortly to do a phone interview. It is also best to have a dog in mind that you would like to adopt or if you don't please let us know that you'd like a dog that best fits your lifestyle. Keep in mind that we are all volunteers and have other obligations so please let your references and vet know that we will be calling to vai all info that you put on your application. If you use two vets then please let us know that so we get all info on your dog possible to determine if you are a suitable home for our dog. If you do not let us know these things this maybe the factor that you will be turned down to adopt one of our dogs.
More about GERTIE....SC
Is Not Good with Kids
AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.
Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
