DENTON came in from the deep south of AL and he was heartworm positive. He's had his treatment and will be ready to go to his new home the end of March. This boy is GORGEOUS, look at that face!! That is truly a classic dachshund head and face. He is sweet beyond words. He loves his foster mommy and will do anything to get in her lap or in her face for kisses and to give kisses. This boy deserves the best of homes and would do better in a home with a female dachshund not male. He would be fine with children over 5 yrs and no cats, we think he'd try to chase them. He is working very hard on his housebreaking but still has accidents but if you had a doggie door it would be best and a fenced in yard would be good too but not necessary if you walked him every day. Not Good with Cats, Is Not Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
