CRYSTAL came in with BELLE2(soon to be on website) and BELLE'S puppies, on the website now. They came from a horribly neglected stituation and we are glad we got them cause they are all so so sweet. Little Ms. CRYSTAL just wants to be held and loved on and cuddled. I'm sure she never had that before. She loves to lay in your lap while you are reading or watching TV. She doesn't know how to play with toys or other dogs. She seems so old beyond her years but we think in time as she adjusts and knows what it's like to be loved that she'll come out of her shell and be a wonderful fun loving little girl. One sad things we found out was that she was heartworm positive and has to go thru treatment and won't be ready to go to her new home till around the middle or end of July. Other than that she is very healthy and UTD on all shots and on Frontline. She will need further work with housetraining but is doing great with a doggie door. She really loves sleeping in the bid bed curled up in your arms. I'm sure she finally feels safe. She does get along with all the other fosters male and female and we think she'd be fine with kids over 5 but don't know about cats.
Out of state and Canadian adoptions are welcome. We have several transporters that for a fee will bring the dog as close to you as possible up the Eastern seaboard. A home visit is required on all adoptions. We also micro chip all our dogs and must pass the cost on to the adopter. It is only $10.00. Thank you for your interest in a rescue. To fill out an application for this dog plesae go to www.ssdr.org and fill out an app. we will be in touch shortly to do a phone interview. It is also best to have a dog in mind that you would like to adopt or if you don't please let us know that you'd like a dog that best fits your lifestyle.
AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.
Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
