This is Corki. Corki was dropped off at the local kill shelter because her "family" found out they were going to have a new human baby and decided they didn't want a dog anymore, especially an old one. A sad story, but this one is going to have a happy ending. As it turns out, Corki had not been very well taken care of in her life.(Big surprise) She had the worst teeth I have ever seen in my life and lost 21 of them at her dental. She also has a hairline fracture of her jaw, which is healing, no doubt a result of untreated periodontal disease. It doesn't stop her from chowing down, though. Besides snuggling, eating is her favorite thing in the world to do. She cannot ever have anything hard to eat, though because of her mouth. She must always be on canned food or soaked dry. She is such a sweet girl, has learned what sleeping in the big bed is all about and is a complete pillow hog. She has also discovered that she loves to be held in a lap and loved on. At first, she was uncomfortable with all the attention, but it hasn't taken her long to come around..and now follows me around the house every step I take. She is mostly housebroken, but she does have accidents occasionally, mostly of the number 2 variety. She is good with other dogs and cats and even ignores my pet birds. I am going to suggest a quiet home, though, with maybe one other dog or cat, and no young children. She would probably be fine with occasional visits from the grandkids, though, as long as they were very gentle and supervised by a responsible adult. She deserves a peaceful life with lots of kisses and pets and pretty much anything her heart desires. She also loves wandering outside, so a fenced yard would be nice. She is up to date on her vaccines and is on Interceptor and Frontline. Corki is being fostered in Northeastern Tennessee. For more information, please contact Corki's foster mom, Andrea. Out of state and Canadian adoptions are welcome. We have several transporters that for a fee will bring the dog as close to you as possible up the Eastern seaboard. A home visit is required on all adoptions. We also micro chip all our dogs and must pass the cost on to the adopter. It is only $10.00. Thank you for your interest in a rescue. To fill out an application for this dog please go to www.ssdr.org and fill out an app. we will be in touch shortly to do a phone interview. It is also best to have a dog in mind that you would like to adopt or if you don't please let us know that you'd like a dog that best fits your lifestyle.

Is Not Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
