COCKTAIL was the saddest of these two girls that came from a B'ham, AL puppymill and dumped at a shelter. We were not sure she would live as emaciated as she was when she came in from one side of her side to the other back by her tail was only about an inch across. But she's a little fighter and has spunk. She has not only made it and put on weight she barks at us until we feed her and she eats like a little pig and has a funny wonderful personality. She's funny to watch and you can just tell she is loving life. She is pottytrained to newspaper and a doggie door and it would be best if her and her sister could be adopted to someone that has a doggie door and a fenced in yard and they are not leash trained. You have to keep in mind so many many things are brand new to them but they take everything in stride and are not shy due to being a puppymill dog. COCKTAIL was very shy when she came in but NOT ANY MORE. She doesn't know a stranger!! We think these two will have to be on thyroid meds for the rest of their life and for that reason we are listing them as "special needs" but they are ready for their new homes and will blossom more and more we are sure. We are happy that we got them to give them a second chance now please be the lucky one to give them a lasting forever home where they will know nothing but love.
Out of state and Canadian adoptions are welcome, we have several transporters that for a fee will bring the dog as close to you as possible. A home visit is required. We also micro chip all our dogs and must pass the cost on to the adopter. It is only $10.00. Thank you for your interested in a rescue.

Not Good with Cats, Is Not Good with Kids
AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.
Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
