He went right to the vet's and they x-rayed in and it was broken and needed a plate in it to allow it to heal properly. We incured a lot of medical bills to set his leg right but it's healed great and in record time and now the vet says we can put him up for adoption. This is what BENTON has to say: I just got back from the vet today and I am ready to go a permanent home. The Dr says my leg is all better I just need to not jump from high places or use the stairs for a couple more weeks. I would love to go to a home that has a friend I can play with. I have been in a crate for a long time now while my leg was healing so I am ready to play play play! When you see my little brown nose coming you know I only want one thing to play with you. I also really love doggie toys, I have tons of them at my foster mom's house. I am great with kids and other animals too. My foster mommy took some pictures of me so you can post them on the SSDR website. I love playing in her baskets. Thanks for all you did for me when you got my leg fixed I will never forget you. AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
