BEING FOSTERED IN B'HAM, AL
We received a call that an Alabama shelter had several dachshunds, one of them looking like she was very close to having puppies. We picked Bella and her shelter buddies up on a Monday and headed straight to the vet with her. She's a dainty little mini and it looked like she was expecting two large (for her) puppies. After a week of puppy watch, Bella was taken to the OR on Friday evening for a C-Section. Bella is believed to be only a year old so the whole puppy thing was a little tough for her since she still thinks she is a puppy. Her babies, Horace and Holly, are now in their new, forever homes so it is Bella's turn. Now that the babies are raised, Bella's playful nature has come out more and more. Her favorite game is to take all of her stuffed toys out through the doggie door to a corner of the back yard. After she gets them there, she comes and dances around to tell her foster mom that it's time to do toy pick up. While foster mom heads out to get toys, Bella runs back and forth to point out every one of them so they're all picked up. Then, one by one, she takes them outside again. Bella took to the doggie door immediately and doesn't have accidents in the house although in a new home, she'll have to learn the routine. She can't imagine sleeping anywhere other than the big bed. She'll even go get her foster mom and ask her to come to the cabinet where the chicken jerky strips stay. Bella has been spayed, is heartworm negative and up to date on flea and heartworm preventative. She has never met anyone she doesn't love and thinks everybody loves her. She hasn't been around really small children but did great with an 11 year old in the family. She enjoys playing with other dogs. She did try to chase a cat in the backyard but then, the cat was in Bella's yard so Bella had to let her know it. Bella is a happy little girl who is ready for a forever home where she'll be loved for the rest of her life.
WE WILL NOT SHIP OUR DOGS CARGO, TOO MANY HORROR TALES HAVE HAPPENED FOR US TO FEEL COMFORTABLE DOING THIS. IF WE CAN'T TRANSPORT BY LAND THEN YOU'LL HAVE TO FLY TO THE CITY THAT THE DOG IS BEING FOSTERED IN TO GET HIM/HER. Out of state and Canadian adoptions are welcome. We have several transporters that for a fee will bring the dog as close to you as possible up the Eastern seaboard or down to FLORDIA. A home visit is required on all adoptions. We also micro chip all our dogs and must pass the cost on to the adopter. It is only $10.00. Thank you for your interest in a rescue. To fill out an application for this dog please go to www.ssdr.org and fill out an app. we will be in touch shortly to do a phone interview. It is also best to have a dog in mind that you would like to adopt or if you don't please let us know that you'd like a dog that best fits your lifestyle. Keep in mind that we are all volunteers and have other obligations so please let your references and vet know that we will be calling to vai all info that you put on your application. If you use two vets then please let us know that so we get all info on your dog possible to determine if you are a suitable home for our dog. If you do not let us know these things this maybe the factor that you will be turned down to adopt one of our dogs.
More about BELLA....GA
Not Good with Cats, Is Not Good with Kids
AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.
Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
