Barney is a long haired, black and tan standard dachshund who was not treated very well in his previous home. He was penned in a small area with 3 larger dogs. He currently needs to gain some weight but he loves to eat and should be at his ideal weight soon. He has a loveable, laid-back personality and gets along with other dogs and kids. He doesn't even want to bother with the cat. Barney does not care to be crated and seems to bark when he is. He sleeps all night and loves to be near you on a soft blanket in the bedroom. He is house-trained and really prefers to be inside with you most of the time (probably due to being penned outside). He loves to sit at your feet while sitting at the computer or watching tv. Barney is HW negative, on preventative and flea treatment, and UTD on all his vaccinations. He is being fostered in Kentucky but out-of-state adoptions are welcome, as well as Canadian aopters. Contact his foster mom at prayzpaws@yahoo.com for more information about this sweet guy.
Home visit is required. We also micro chip all our dogs and must pass the cost off to the adopter. It is only $10.00. Thank you for your interested in a rescue.
AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.
Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
